Scaling or cleaning of teeth is a procedure that is done to clean the gums and periodontal area from plaque, tartar and calculus. Normally even with good brushing habits, tartar and calculus starts depositing in the gums; especially in the areas between the teeth. Proper cleaning and scaling is needed almost once a year for healthy people. While people with progressive gum disease or periodontitis may need to get their scaling done every 2-4 months as per the dentist’s advice.
